Chocolate chip cookie anyone????

Chewy vs Crunchy????  That's the question.  I'm talking about a good chocolate chip cookie and what your preference is.  I took a poll with my friends and family and the results were mixed but only to a certain degree.  Chewy won out, second was chewy on the inside, crunchy on the outside and then a lone few who liked crunchy all by itself.  Of course some of those answering my poll had their take on walnuts vs. pecans as well as the amount of chocolate chips in the cookie.  I was surprised to see a few respond that the fewer the chocolate chips the better.  WHAT???  MY preference is the more chocolate chips the better!

I promised those who responded by sending me their address' some samples. And its time I come through.  I have a good recipe I like that produces a a nice crunchy cookie but I'm still searching for that perfect chewy cookie.  I have a few recipes that I like but I would like to narrow it down to just one.  Most people think that all you have to do to get a chewy cookie is just under-bake it.  In reality, the more moisture in the cookie the chewier it will be.  But then again, if you do under bake a cookie, in essence, it will be chewy, and yet if you over bake a cookie, in essence, it will definitely be crunchy.  (Although more likely than not its burnt.)

Well, its time to get my butter out of the fridge and get it to room temp!!!  Let the baking begin.

  4. Sharon Baker Lady -- you have a blog!!! This is awesome. I'm so excited. I'm almost as excited about it as I was when I received a package from you today of cookies! Daniel's cookies! Wonderful packaging and with really neat labeling! The ultimate "chewy" and the ultimate "crunchy!" Thank you so much my friend. I am looking forward to trying them out tomorrow morning with my coffee -- if I can wait until then! Thank you again and congrats on your blog and enterprise! Very cool!

    1. Hi Sheri! I'm glad you got my cookies and totally surprised they came so quickly as I just mailed them yesterday afternoon. Go figure. Anyway, I finally found some time last weekend to get this blog idea of mine going. I used your's as a 'tool' and reference for sure. My only frustration is that it seems that if anyone wants to post something they on my blog, they should have a 'Google" account. I know its free...but it seems unfair to have to have someone sign up for google to just reply to my blog.

On another note, I do hope you enjoy the cookies. I'm going to post this blog through Facebook this weekend. I just wanted to get some of the kinks ironed out.

My father called me today as I sent him some cookies and he asked me if they were laced with Cocaine because they were so addictive....he cracks me up. I was glad to hear that he liked them. He needs to eat some buttery, fatty good stuff as he could use a to gain a few pounds.

Okay, happy eating. And let me know which ones are your preference.

      Talk to you soon,
      Sharon (aka Daniel's Cookies!)

  5. (The following message is from my cousin Michael. I cut and pasted it from my Facebook messages.)

Hi Sharon, got your cookies on Thursday the 21st ( postmarked on 19th) the box was undamaged - no crumbs, lol

I liked both versions but for different reasons, . . . however if i can only chose one i would go with the CHEWY.

If you want my full critique, keep reading. . .

I liked the CRUNCHY ones cause they reminded me of the popular 'Choc-o-chip' cookies that were so popular in the school cafeteria, always great with a pint of milk and great for dunking.

However, without a beverage they would not be my first choice.

Your CHEWY cookie was moist and had a nice soft baked consistency, good to eat all on its own - no beverage desired, and that's why it wins my vote.

Everyone has there own preferences and with that in mind I'd like to share a few additional thoughts.

For me the perfect 'texture' chocolate chip cookie is actually half way between your CRUNCHY and CHEWY, and that's how i bake mine, - still considered a chewy cookie moist enough to eat without the beverage but not soft like your chewy ones. . . as for the 'flavor' of the cookie, it was obvious to me that i use more vanilla in mine (guys love vanilla!) but also that the bittersweet morsels you use are way more bitter than the Hershey's chocolate chunks I'm used to, - they are fine for your CRUNCHY cookie but in the CHEWY cookie they make me want to reach for the milk to tone down the bitterness, . . . as a kid i just thought you should know. Overall I enjoyed the cookies and would give yours a 4 out of 5 stars. . . Thanks for sharing!

    1. Thanks so much Michael for your comments. I LOVE them and appreciate your thoroughness. I'm glad the cookies arrived safely and no crumbs!!! I thought that I had bubble wrapped them well enough!! Enjoy and don't be afraid to grab that big glass of cold milk, as there's nothing better than a chocolate chip cookie enjoyed with a COLD glass of milk. Talk to you soon, Sharon (aka Daniel's Cookies!)

  6. Hi Sharon, . . . the previous 'Hi' was from me your cousin Mike.
If a person selects "Anonymous" under 'Select profile' they don't have to have a Google account to post here, . . . the down side is that if they don't give thier name in the the comment they post your not going to know who it is . . . of course if everything always worked perfectly i would suspect there was somethimg seriously wrong, lol

  10. Mom, I just had one of your chewy chocolate chip cookies and it was AMAZING!!! It was the perfect balance between chocolate chips and cookie dough and it wasn't too thick or too thin. It was the perfect cookie! It doesn't get any better than that! Love, Moe

  11. Dear Sharon Cookie Baker Lady,

I had the opportunity and the distinct pleasure and privilege of eating your wonderful cookies (not all of them) with my coffee yesterday afternoon, as I mentioned I would. As I am on a self imposed diet, such treats and indulgences are far and few between. I looked forward to the moment with great anticipation and I can attest to the fact that I was not at all disappointed. Both the ultimate "crunchy" and the ultimate "chewy" were fantastically and forbiddingly delicious with equal amounts of yum for each. How to decide; how to choose?! I surprised myself by preferring the "crunchy" texture with my afternoon coffee, however, another time and another beverage (milk?) might well see me choosing the "chewy." Perhaps I would have the "chewy" on those days of the week whose spelling did not include the letter "u" just for fun and whimsy. One thing I can say for sure is that no matter the cookie; chewy or crunchy, either one will delight your palate, satisfy your taste buds and, much like the old "calgon" commercials, will "take you away" if only for a brief moment to a place where there are no cares in the world and with each bite of cookie you feel as if you are floating on clouds or you're otherwise whisked away to your new happy place where you can eat how ever many cookies that you want and they each have zero calories.

I'll leave the technical aspects of the cookie; size, shape, thickness, number of chocolate chips, bittersweet or semi-sweet and the amount of vanilla, etc. to the real experts. I'm not an authority on any of those things. I know if I like a cookie or not though, even if I may not completely know why. The point is, I don't need to know why. Daniel's Cookies, both the ultimate chewy and ultimate crunchy are, hands down the best darn chocolate chip cookies that I have had in a long long time!

    Yours Truly,
    sheri, Hiker Lady
